Finnish Publishers Association statistical system renewed for 2026

In spring 2026, we updated the user interface of the Finnish Publishers Association’s browser-based statistics system, with a particular focus on clarity, usability, and accessibility.

Client and Partnership

The Finnish Publishers Association is a non-profit organisation founded in 1858. It serves as a cooperation and advocacy organisation for Finnish book and educational publishing companies. Its mission is to promote the Finnish publishing industry, support publishing and the free distribution of literature, and foster the joy of reading.

The Association also provides a nationwide statistics system that compiles statistical data based on information submitted by Finnish publishers.

Why Timehouse?

The long-standing partnership between the Finnish Publishers Association and Timehouse continues, with the statistics system being developed incrementally to meet evolving needs.

Challenge and Background

The Finnish Publishers Association’s system collects and publishes statistics on Finnish literature and publishing activities. The statistics platform brings together publishing industry data, which is published in annual, quarterly, and educational materials reports, among others. These statistics provide valuable market insights into the publishing industry.

Publishing industry data has been collected through the same system since 2008.

After improving the data collection processes and the ability to maintain the system, the next step was to redesign how information is presented to users in the reporting service.

Implementation

The renewal of the Finnish Publishers Association’s statistics system is now also visible in the public reporting service. The primary focus of the redesign was improving the clarity, usability, and accessibility of reports. In an earlier phase of the project, development focused mainly on the data collection interface and making the system easier to maintain.

The reporting service update continues the phased development of the statistics system. First, the data collection interface and system maintainability were modernized, and now the same improvements are reflected in the reporting service. The result is a service where statistical information is presented more clearly, is easier to access, and can be used more efficiently

The reporting service redesign focused particularly on how users find the information they need and how statistical data is presented within the service. The project streamlined navigation between reports, improved the readability of charts and tables, and unified the overall visual appearance and user experience.

“Navigation between reports is now much smoother, allowing users to find the right information faster with fewer clicks. We’ve also improved the readability of charts and tables, making the most important information stand out more clearly. Overall, the site’s visual design and user experience have been unified, making the service more logical and approachable than before.”
