Case study

Modernising publisher websites & digital maintenance

Timehouse carried out a technical upgrade and light brand refresh of the publishing group Publiva Oy websites.  At the same time, the digital maintenance and upkeep strategy was modernised.

Client

The client was Publiva Oy, a publishing group that operates several publishing brands, including Kirjapaja, Lasten Keskus, and the newly launched publishing brand, Publiva kustannus. Each brand has its own target audience and website, yet. collectively they needed to belong to a seamless and cohesive brand family.

Collaboration

The project began with a brand refresh of the Lasten Keskus, Kirjapaja, and Publiva.fi websites. In addition to refreshing the websites’ visual appearances, we improved their usability and performance. The collaboration continued with the development of a new website for the Publiva publishing brand. As part of the updated maintenance strategy, all websites within Publiva’s portfolio of publishing brands were migrated to our Premium Hosting service.

The challenge

Over the years, several of the WordPress websites had fallen behind on updates. The WordPress core, themes, and plugins had become so outdated that the websites could no longer be safely updated using standard update procedures.

The client also needed to:

  • manage multiple publishing brands simultaneously
  • ensure website security and reliability
  • maintain a consistent visual identity across different brands
  • launch a new publishing brand quickly as an extension of the existing portfolio.

The solution

We modernised all the websites and migrated them to our Premium Hosting environment.

The work included:

  • upgrading the WordPress platforms to modern standards
  • replacing outdated themes and plugins
  • migrating the websites to a secure managed hosting environment
  • introducing ongoing security, maintenance, and update services
  • giving the websites a light visual refresh (facelift)
  • building the new Publiva publishing website as part of the same brand family as the group’s other websites.

The shared technical platform means more efficient website maintenance and makes it easier to add new brands to the overall portfolio.

Results

As a result of the project, all of the client’s publishing brands now operate consistently on a modern and secure WordPress platform.

The solution provides:

  • secure websites that are easy to maintain
  • centralised maintenance for all websites
  • a smooth and efficient content publishing process
  • rapid deployment of the new publishing brand
  • a unified technical solution that supports the group’s continued digital development.
