It’s been an exciting year for the Timehouse CAD & BIM development team! Though CAD & BIM development is nothing new at Timehouse (it’s something we have been doing for a long time), recently we have been kicking things into high gear and talking about our journey a bit more. Here is what we have been up to…
Specialist interdisciplinary team built up over the years
Over the years we have been able to acquire a very diverse (even niche) set of skills and can offer very specialist programming for the construction and engineering industry.
One important thing that we want to highlight is the fact that we are an incredibly interdisciplinary team: alongside software engineers, our BIM team also includes architects and engineers, and even BIM marketers. We want to bridge the gap between the demands of software development and the world of engineering and off-site construction and on-site assembly.
Over the past six months, we have had new team members and collaborators join us, including Mikko Kyläkoski who will be bringing his log engineer expertise to the table.
So, what do we actually do?
We can customise your CAD and BIM software so that it works with your workflow, integrates with your production line, or just generally tweak it so that it matches your product catalogue. We can also integrate your CAD or BIM software into the rest of your company, whether that’s your ERP or your PLM software. We can also do things like help you optimise how you use your material through algorithms. Or we can simply act as a technical consultancy, to help you figure out what you need to prioritise.
Working with our amazing community
We have interviewed a lot of our clients and created new BIM case studies off the back of these conversations (more on the way in 2025). It’s also been great to visit some of our client factories and see our coding literally in action.
It’s been really inspiring to hear from our clients and get feedback on what it’s like to work with us, but also to see things like the element production line in-person. This helps us understand how our work actually impacts the bottom line. It’s also been interesting to have discussions with people who are completely new to our BIM services and getting an idea from them what different things they would be interested in, from GDL libraries to optimisation and integrations.
We’ve also been to some interesting events and presentations, where we have been able to share some of our latest client work and projects, such as the Archicad integration we have done for Kontio.
Creating new material off the back of all this activity has allowed us to grow our audience. We made our first video and created a look and feel for our branded materials.
This is all so that we can showcase what we have been doing and invite people to come along for the journey. You can follow us on LinkedIn to find out the latest BIM team news or join our newsletter. There are some very exciting things around the corner, including some new services and product development news.
Part of the timber engineering movement: TimBIM
We have worked with some of the best and biggest in log manufacturing including Honka and Kontio. We are proud to be part of some incredibly innovative and exciting construction methods that marry digitisation with sustainability and longevity.
Timber engineering is an exciting industry as not only does it put Finland and the Nordics on the map, it also promotes a more sustainable and humane way of building. Log homes use a renewable resource as their primary building material, but they are also beautiful homes to live in.
